WINES

HISTORY

According to an ancient legend told in the area, in around 1600 in the hamlet Ciser di Fregona, at the foot of Monte Pizzoc, an enterprising farmer found a way to ripen grapes that, due to the adverse weather conditions, had failed to mature in the vineyard, by hanging them from the beams in a barn.
During the winter the grapes withered and became sweet and our farmer was forced to squeeze them with the winepress in the following spring thus obtaining the must that he put to ferment in small casks.
Since then the Torchiato, the wine "of festivals" has been produced by all the farming families of the town of Fregona, with the handing down from generation to generation of the traditional techniques and the equipment required to obtain this sweet raisin wine that, with pride, they present for tasting on the occasion of the presentation that is performed in the last week of April of each year.
Still today, in a small village near Fregona, there exists a winepress, that has been used for generations by many families from the area.
